Sera: part deux Your hair is SO LONG! Did you ever think it would get this long? S: Well, I was a little uncertain as to whether waist-length hair would be possible; however, I knew that as time went on that if I took good care of my hair then it would be possible. How did you know what to do to get it this long? And how many inches do you think you have? S: I knew that taking care of my hair and keeping it moisturized as much as possible would help with length retention. When measured, it is 28 inches (top/crown), 30 inches (midsection to bottom portion). It took about 4 years and 9 months to get to this length. So what is your secret? S: No secret, just lots of patience & care. I try to keep my hair moisturized and protected (i.e. twists/braids) Have there ever been any rough periods when your hair wasn't really growing, or you lost length or health. S: I have had to cut off 3 inches on two separate occassions within a span of 2 months (in 2007) due to damaged ends -- our ...

long thick natural hair to... long thick relaxed hair?
so, it's interesting how this ties in with our recent discussion on relaxed hair. it has some of the thickest, longest and most beautiful natural hair i've ever seen. well, had. she chose to relax (motions lye relaxer) in october 2008. her hair is gorgeous both ways. but i was surprised she relaxed, since i felt she had the best of both worlds — the health of natural hair with the option to straighten if she wanted a relaxed look. so, i asked her about it... a REAL "it's just hair" chick
so, we recently discussed the "it's just hair" attitude versus the "it's not just hair" attitude. a lot of people talk a big "it's just hair" game... but honestly, from here on out, i am using bublnbrnsuga as my personal standard for the "it's just hair" attitude. so i recently profiled her, because she was able to grow her natural hair out in excess of 24 inches... then relax it (just cuz she wanted to)...
