climbing deeper into this natural ish: the end of blogger week & a new accessory So guest blogger week is over and we had some great entries! Thanks to all those who wrote guest posts! I found it at Urban Outfitters. It's a headband (or bandoo as we call it in Jamaica) with a bunch of feathers attached. I like it because it looks vintage. I decided to take some photos of me wearing. I was tired and doing battle with a blemish on my forehead, so these aren't super great, but you get the idea.

i read an article in essence magazine about the way black women are portrayed negatively in hip hop and had this whole eloquent blog entry prepared, affirming the piece. but as i sat down to write, i was just too tired to talk about it. one more blog entry about black women and hip hop is not going to help. we've said all we can say. but maybe putting up pictures of beautiful natural haired black women will. i'm hoping it will. beauty is politics. hair is politics. and i hope this site paints a picture of black women that is virtually absent from the media: women who are naturally beautiful, not ascribing to the media's representation of black femininity, and proud of who they are.

I am so angry at this tragedy, ESPECIALLY since reports say the crazed killer could be J. Hud's sister's ex. Black women! Let this be a wake up call! We have GOT to be careful who we allow into our lives! We have GOT to demand more of our men before we allow them into our homes and our bedrooms! It is horrific that this man could have exacted such a tragedy on such a tight-knit family, killing J. Hud's 57-y-o mother, 29-y-o brother and 7-y-o nephew. I do the court reporting for my newspaper, and I was at the courthouse today looking up records for a case I'm covering. I met a black woman who was looking up the criminal record of her boyfriend. She said that the J. Hud tragedy was a wake up call.
